HC Deb 12 November 1917 vol 99 cc52-3W
Mr. ROWLANDS

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that the chemists and dispensers of the hospitals in the Eastern Command were appointed at a salary of £2 2s. a week, with rations which were reckoned at 12s. 3d. a week, and that these rations in kind were taken off seventeen months ago and an allowance of 6s. 3d a week made in lieu of these rations; whether he is aware that a war bonus of 11s. or 15s. a week has been given to the other civilian employés while the chemists and dispensers have only been given a bonus of 4s. a week from 1st January, 1917; and, seeing that this sum, together with the 6s. 3d. allowed, does not come up to the original value of the rations in kind apart from the increase in prices, will he consider the claims of the chemists and dispensers to an increase of their war bonus?

Mr. FORSTER

I am having the matter considered.
