HC Deb 12 November 1917 vol 99 cc41-2W
Mr. DICKINSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many applications for sanction for promotion to the first division of second division clerks have been received since August, 1914, giving the names of the Departments making application and stating in how many cases sanction has been given?

Mr. BALDWIN

Since the 1st August, 1914, six applications have been received from Departments for sanction to the promotion to the higher division of second division clerks, or clerks holding staff posts the scales of which are within the second division scales, namely, one each from the Home Office, India Office, Colonial Office, Board of Trade, Board of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Inland Revenue Department. In addition, five applications were received from the India Office for sanction to the promotion to the higher division of clerks holding staff posts, normally filled from the second division, carrying a maximum in excess of the maxima of the second division scales. Treasury sanction to the promotion was given in the case of all these applications. Second division clerks have also been promoted to four vacancies which have arisen for second class division clerks in the Supreme Court Pay Office.
