HC Deb 14 March 1917 vol 91 c1130W
Mr. DORIS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland why, in their recent distribution of a grazing farm in the district, the Congested Districts Board refused to give an enlargement of the uneconomic holding of Mrs. Bridget M'Hale, of Ballyvary, county Mayo; and will he ask the Board to reconsider her ease?

Mr. DUKE

The primary duty of the Congested Districts Board is to enlarge the uneconomic holdings ofbonâ-fide agricultural landholders, but where, after satisfying the claims of such landholders, land is available, the Board endeavour to provide house-owners in towns and villages on their estates with small plots of accommodation land. The applicant named is an old age pensioner with an accommodation holding of 3 acres 2 perches. The Board are not in a position to enlarge the holdings of occupiers of accommodation holdings of above 3 acres.
