HC Deb 02 July 1917 vol 95 cc771-2W
Mr. H. P. HARRIS

asked the Home Secretary whether two police-women have been employed in Paddington since 25th May, 1916, with advantage to the public at the cost of funds raised locally; and whether, as these funds are no longer available, the employment of these police-women can be continued by the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police?

Sir G. CAVE

I understand that two members of the Women's Police Service have been employed in Paddington at the cost of funds raised locally. The Commissioner of Police has, in any area where the circumstances justify this course, supplemented the regular police by employing patrols of the National Union of Women Workers, and, pending further experience, he does not propose to make changes which might lead to overlapping of agencies.
