HC Deb 15 February 1917 vol 90 c828W
Mr. A. ALLEN

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether any action has been taken with regard to the financial recommendations made by the Departmental Committee which was appointed to inquire into the reformatory and industrial schools in Scotland?

Mr. MUNRO

I am glad to be able to inform my hon. Friend that the Treasury have sanctioned increases in the Government Grants to Reformatory and Industrial Schools in Scotland amounting in the aggregate to about £9,000 a year. The new scale of grants is generally in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee. I may add that it is proposed, in view of these increased Government Grants, to require increased contributions from local authorities, and accordingly the financial position of the schools in question will be materially improved.
