HC Deb 12 February 1917 vol 90 cc288-9W
Mr. G. TERRELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he has received a request from the Wilts County War Agricultural Committee and from the Board of Agriculture for the release of either Trooper W. G. Greenwood, No. 2335, Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Yeomanry, Egyptian Expeditionary Force, or Private Frank Greenwood, No. 33,039, D Company, 6th Battalion, Wilts Regiment, 19th Division, British Expeditionary Force, the only sons of a widowed mother who is carrying on extensive farming operations in Wiltshire; whether he has considered that one of these sons can render greater service to the country as a farmer than as a private in the Army; and whether, in the circumstances, he will see that one of the sons is released forthwith?

Mr. MACPHERSON

In view of the very exceptional circumstances of the case, the Commander-in-Chief has been asked if Private Frank Greenwood can be spared from his unit to undertake the management of the farm in question.
