HC Deb 26 April 1917 vol 92 c2596W
Mr. MOONEY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if his attention has been called to the case of Private Arthur Joseph Rooney, No. 31924, Royal Irish Rifles, Victoria Barracks, Belfast; whether he is aware that this boy joined the 4th Hussars, B squadron, I troop, 1st Cavalry Reserve, Curragh Camp, county Kildare, on the 12th January last; that his birth certificate shows that this boy is only sixteen and a half years old; and that his father, who is a widower with seven other children all younger than Private Rooney, has forwarded a copy of the boy's birth certificate to the commanding officer, Royal Irish Rifles, Belfast, but up to the present has received no acknowledgment; and whether instructions will now be given to have this boy discharged from the Army?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have no information on this particular case. Under-age soldiers are not now discharged.
