HC Deb 25 April 1917 vol 92 c2412W
Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he will state the names Of the schools in the districts where Irish is the home language which have not yet got the bilingual programme, and also the reasons for its non-introduction in each of them?

Mr. DUKE

The Commissioners of National Education inform me that precise information cannot be supplied as to schools, if any, in Irish-speaking districts in which the bilingual programme has not been adopted. In cases in which the question of introducing this programme is brought under notice, either through the officers of the Board of National Education (who are expected to call attention to instances of this kind) or through representations made by persons or organisations not connected with the Board, the matter is investigated and the programme is adopted if the conditions contained in the Rules of the Board are satisfied.
