asked on what date the Commander-in-Chief wrote to state that the "Nation" newspaper contained objectionable matter which should not be sent abroad?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The date of the communication from the Field-Marshal Commanding-in-Chief, France, with reference to the "Nation," was 12th March, 1917.

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War what was the number of registered newspaper; published in England and Wales, the circulation abroad of which had been prohibited on 1st December, 1916; how many of these, if any, had been convicted of offences against the Defence of the Realm Act; and what are the corresponding figures at the present time?

The number of registered newspapers whose circulation abroad was actually prohibited on 1st December, 1916, and at the present time, respectively, is as follows:
