§ Mr. M'KEANasked the Chief Secretary what are the qualifications as a specialist in mental diseases of Dr. Dawson, inspector of lunatic asylums; and whether, having regard to all the circumstances of the case of Captain Bowen-Colthurst, he will consider the desirability of obtaining the opinion of some expert in mental diseases who would be free from any suspicion of partiality?
§ Mr. DUKEDr. Dawson has devoted practically the whole of his professional career to the study of mental diseases, and has held numerous important appointments in connection with the treatment of the insane. He has been for upwards of five years Government Inspector of Lunatics in Ireland. I think there is no foundation for the suggestion in the latter part of the question.
