§ Mr. R. McNEILLasked the President of the Board of Trade what quantity and what value of foreign hops have been imported since the Government's intention to prohibit such imports was announced in Parliament; whether any applications have been received for licences to import foreign hops and, if so, for what quantities; for what quantities, if any, have licences been granted; and on what grounds have such licences been granted?
Mr. RUNCIMANThe quantity of hops imported in the four months, June to September, is shown by the monthly trade accounts to have been 30,949 cwts., and the value thereof was £164,210. Applications have been received for licences to import 12,351 packages, as well as requests for permission to import unspecified quantities. Licences have been granted for the importation of 7,825 packages in the circumstances described in the answer given to the hon. and gallant Member for Maidstone, which appears in the OFFICIAL REPORT for the 16th August.
