§ Mr. ERNEST JARDINEasked the Prime Minister if he is aware that every belligerent State has recalled its citizens of military age who live abroad under Military Service Acts; and if he can see his way to introduce a short Act to bring this country into line with our Allies in this respect?
1222W
§ The PRIME MINISTERI would refer my hon. Friend to the oral answer given to the hon. and gallant Member for the Enfield Division to-day.
§ Mr. JARDINEasked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will suggest to Allied Governments that pressure be applied to British employers in Allied countries who offer no encouragement to their employés joining the Army?
§ Lord R. CECILI assume that the hon. Member is referring only to employés of British nationality. I am afraid that such action as he suggests would give rise to misconception, nor do I think that it is called for, seeing that a very large number of British subjects in Allied countries have already returned for military service.
§ Mr. JARDINEasked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will have a census made of all men of military age at present residing in Allied countries?
§ Lord R. CECILI am afraid that this suggestion is impracticable.
