REESasked the Attorney-General if he has read the judgment of the Lord Chancellor in a recent appeal to the Privy Council, from which it appears that the suit in respect of which the appeal arose was filed in 1900, the final judgment 246W in India was given in 1908, and the Privy Council appeal judgment in 1916; and what steps are being taken to deal with cases of this kind?
§ Mr. CHAMBERLAINI have been unable to identify the particular case to which my hon. Friend refers, but I view with grave concern the state of affairs disclosed in some recent judgments of the Privy Council. I addressed the Government of India on the subject in May last, in consequence of a letter received from the Lord President of the Council, and requested them to consult the High Courts on the subject and to acquaint me with their views and proposals as early as possible.
