HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1922W
Mr. ANDERSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether there is any official information to the effect that there are at present 400,000 vacancies for women on the land; and whether he is aware that many applicants for such employment are being informed by local Labour Exchanges that they have no record of any such vacancies?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have no information to the effect that there are at present 400,000 vacancies for women on the land. An active campaign is, however, being undertaken by the Board of Trade in cooperation with the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries to extend the employment of women in agriculture, and I anticipate that as this campaign proceeds there will be an increasing number of vacancies for women in this work.
