§ Mr. PETOasked the President of the Board of Trade what amount weekly is expended out of the Government War Risks Insurance scheme in allowances to the dependants of the merchant captains, officers, and crews now interned in Germany and Turkey, and what proportion of this amount is paid by the shipowners; and whether the maximum allowance in each individual case still remains at £l weekly?
Mr. HARCOURTIt is not possible to give the weekly figures, but the total amount paid under the dependants' scheme 871W up to the end of last year was about £50,000. Of this amount 80 per cent, is borne by the Government and 20 per cent, by the War Risks Associations or by the individual shipowners. The allowance is half wages or £1 a week, whichever is less.
