Except in the cases marked ^* officers are provided with quarters, fuel and light, or receive appropriate allowances in lieu.

In the cases marked ^* the pay is subject to a deduction if public quarters are occupied.

Except in the case of those officers marked ^* who are employed at home, field allowance is issuable in certain circumstances.

Colonial allowance is issuable at certain stations abroad when the cost of living is unusually high, but not in France or the Dardanelles.
