HC Deb 04 December 1916 vol 88 cc665-6W
Colonel CARNEGIE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that skilled mechanics, enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps at special rates of pay, are occupied for several months learning squad drill; whether they were enlisted for this purpose; and whether he will consider the desirability of employing them in following their trades in the Royal Flying Corps workshops?

Mr. FORSTER

The normal course of squad drill for a recruit in the Royal Flying Corps is one week. A longer course would be valuable from the point of view of discipline, and is given in cases where tradesmen have been enlisted in the advance of the formation of new squadrons.
