HC Deb 04 December 1916 vol 88 c672W
Mr. JACOBSEN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the Appeal Tribunal for the Manchester area has allowed the appeal of a Manchester telegraphist named Darbyshire on condition that he takes up important national work; and whether, having regard to the arrangement between the Pelham Committee and the Post Office, and to the fact that Mr. Darbyshire has been classified as B 2, he will grant a certificate that telegraph work in the service of the Post Office is work of national importance?

Mr. J. PEASE

Under a general arrangement skilled telegraphists in the Post Office who are passed for military service in Categories other than "A" or "B"(1) are being retained on their civil duties. As Mr. Darbyshire is passed for B (2) only, he will be retained, in accordance with this arrangement.
