HC Deb 04 December 1916 vol 88 c681W
Sir G. TOULMIN

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called to the report of the medical officer of health, Cumberland, that among 2,574 births notified under the Act, the death rate was only sixty-eight per 1,000, but in the case of 1,476 births not notified the death rate was 147, or one in seven born; and whether he will take steps to make the administration of the Act more effective or to strengthen its provisions?

Mr. LONG

I have been in communication with the Cumberland County Council on this matter, and am assured by them that stops have been taken to secure more complete notification of births.
