Mr. THORNEasked the Minister of Munitions whether he is aware that a number of workers in the Arsenal in the fuse shop have had their piece rates cut down one-third; whether it is a violation of the agreement that has been arrived at between the organisations of labour and the Government; and, if so, does he intend taking any action in the matter?
§ Dr. ADDISONReductions of piecework prices for certain operations in the filling of fuses have been made at the Arsenal on account of the introduction of altered and improved methods. A reduction under such circumstances is quite consistent with the pledge given by the Government on this matter and with the special notice on this subject posted in the Arsenal in August, 1915. I am sending my lion. Friend a copy of this notice.
