Mr. PATRICK WHITE

asked the Vice-President of the Board of Agriculture (Ireland) whether he will state the total amount paid by the Department in respect of technical instruction to the county of Meath in each of the last three financial years; the amount paid to each rural district, and the amount paid to the urban districts of Navan, Kells, and Trim, respectively; and the basis upon which the amount is allocated in each instance?

The Grants paid by the Department are in respect of the academic year, or session, ending 31st July, and not in respect of the financial year. The Grants paid in respect of the last three academic years ended 31st July, 1914, are:—

These Grants are made in respect of a general scheme for the county; if separate schemes had been in operation for the rural districts and the urban districts, respectively, the Grants would probably have bean:—

These Grants are made up partly of Grants upon the attendance of students at instruction and partly of contributions from the Department's endowment. In the latter case the amounts are determined by several considerations, the principal one being the relative populations of the urban districts.
