Colonel WHITEasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that the flat-topped service caps affords no protection against sunstroke nor shelter from rain, and is in addition dangerously visible in bright lights, it is proposed to issue during the summer months to the Expeditionary Force any other form of headgear, such as the felt slouch hats which proved so effective in the South African campaign?
§ Mr. TENNANTThe slouch hat worn by some of the troops in the South African campaign was not reported as satisfactory, but it is intended to add a588W curtain to the service dress cap for protection in summer against the sun and rain. It is anticipated that, by the removal of the wire frame, the visibility of the cap will be greatly reduced.
