HC Deb 20 April 1915 vol 71 c219W
Mr. YEO

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the fact that the use of animals in standardising drugs in the Welcome Laboratory involves unnecessary cruelty, he will consider the advisability of withdrawing the licences granted to vivisectors in that establishment?

Mr. McKENNA

The work of standardising drugs at this laboratory is of the greatest importance for the prevention and treatment of disease. It is carried on in accordance with the prescribed conditions and is subject to the supervision of inspectors under the Cruelty to Animals Act. I am advised that no cruelty occurs in the work and that every precaution is taken to prevent cruelty.
