asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what advalorem duty would be required to produce the same total revenue from imported tea as the 5d. per pound produced in the last year for which figures are available?

On the basis of the receipts for 1913–14 and the average import price of tea in that year, the duty required would have been 55 per cent.
