HC Deb 21 May 1914 vol 62 c2152W
Lord ROBERT CECIL

asked the Secretary of State for War whether there is any sum standing to the credit of the late Thomas Trustle, formerly No. 763 Private, 67th Foot, in the military savings bank; if not, whether any record or receipt can be produced to show whether the sum of 203 rupees 15 annas, which appears to the credit of the late Thomas Trustle in his regimental account book at the time of his discharge, was ever paid to him; and, if so, how and when it was paid?

Mr. TENNANT

There is no sum standing to the credit of the late Thomas Trustle, formerly No. 763 Private, 67th Foot, in the military savings bank, nor can any direct evidence of payment of the amount shown as standing to his credit in his pocket ledger at the time of discharge in May, 1878, be produced, as the bank accounts and supporting vouchers for the period have long been destroyed. It is assumed that, following the practice of the Service, the money was withdrawn from the bank and paid to him by the Paymaster at Netley at the date of his discharge.
