Mr. GEORGE LLOYDasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the Senghenydd and other disasters in the coal-mining industry, he proposes to take any legislative steps with a view to increasing the safety of those employed in mining?
§ Mr. McKENNAI do not anticipate that the Government will be able this Session to introduce any legislation in regard to the mining industry beyond the Bill which is already before the House. I may point out, however, to the hon. Member that the question of the prevention of coal-dust explosions and other points which have been raised by the reports on the Senghenydd and other recent disasters can be dealt with by Regulations under the Act, without legislation, and I hope, as soon as the inquiries now in hand are completed, to propose Regulations dealing with the matters in question.
