HC Deb 30 July 1914 vol 65 c1593W
Mr. EDMUND HARVEY

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether 40,000 acres of Brecon Forest have been offered for sale by the Crown; and whether he can state the grounds on which this is being done?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The answer is in the negative. The property does not belong to the Crown. The hon. Member has probably been misled by an extract from the "Times" of 4th June, 1814, which appeared in the issue of 4th June, 1914. The "Times" of 4th June, 1814, did contain a reference to the then proposed sale of 41,000 acres of waste land of the Great Forest of Brecknock (Brecon) subject to common rights. Enclosure Acts were subsequently passed and the Crown allotment of 13,760 acres was sold.
