HC Deb 08 July 1914 vol 64 c1083W
Mr. MOLTENO

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what has been the cost up to date of the naval missions to Greece and Turkey; upon what Vote is the cost borne; and when the missions are expected to terminate?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The two missions are paid by the countries concerned, and no part of the cost falls on Navy Votes. The usual period for which officers contract to serve on these missions is two years, which is sometimes extended by mutual arrangement. The existing contracts will both come under review in the ordinary course next year, and it would be premature to discuss the question of their renewal before it has been raised by the Governments concerned.
