§ Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN
asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that registration clerks are allowed a fee of 1s. 6d. per entry for registration of births and deaths and only 6d. per entry for registration of marriages, although it entails double entry and extra trouble; and whether he will make inquiries with a view of readjusting the scale of fees according to the work performed by such clerks?1423W
§ Mr. BIRRELL
The Registrar-General informs me that by the provisions of the Act 26 Vic, cap. 11, Section 54, the remuneration of a registrar for every entry of a birth or death is fixed at the sum of one shilling, and by the provisions of the Act 26 and 27 Vic., cap. 90, Section 21, the remuneration for every entry of a marriage is fixed at sixpence. Any readjustment of the scale of fees would require legislation.
