HC Deb 23 February 1914 vol 58 c1432W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the dissatisfaction expressed by elected members of the board of managers of the Poplar and Stepney Sick Asylum at the system of co-opting persons to the board of management, he will discontinue this practice, which fell into disuse in 1896 and has recently been revived?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The power of nominating managers of the Sick Asylum District by the Local Government Board has been regularly exercised since 1908. Three members have been nominated out of a total number of fifteen managers. The system has proved of value, and I am not aware of any sufficient reason for discontinuing it.
