HC Deb 17 February 1914 vol 58 c796W
Mr. PETO

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will abolish the present charge of 5s. which is made to British steamers arriving off the British coast for advising them of weather conditions by wireless, in view of the fact that these messages are transmitted free from Canada to outward-bound vessels and the installation of wireless apparatus is compulsory on British passenger vessels?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I would point out that the Imperial Parliament, unlike the Canadian Legislature, has not yet made the installation of wireless apparatus compulsory on any ships. The question whether the charge referred to should be maintained if and when Parliament adopts that course will be considered in due time.
