HC Deb 15 April 1914 vol 61 cc173-4W
Mr. SCANLAN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether the mountain portion of the St. Lawrence estate, situated in the townland of Lismabrine, parish of Dromard, county Sligo, will be sold with the remainder of the estate to the tenants who are purchasing their holdings?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board made an offer for the purchase of this estate, comprising the whole of the townland of Lismacbryan, which was not accepted, and they are not at present negotiating for the purchase of the property.

Mr. SCANLAN

asked the Chief Secretary whether the Congested Districts Board have received applications from tenants in the district to purchase, for the relief of congestion, the Doonflyn grazing ranche, situated in the parish of Skreen, county Sligo; what steps, if any, have been taken to acquire this land; and whether, since those applications have been made, the landlord has effected a transfer of the land to a person who is already in the occupation of a considerable quantity of land in the district?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board have received applications with reference to the purchase of the Doonflyn grazing farm, but it has not been offered for sale through them. Inquiries will be made regarding it.

Mr. SCANLAN

asked the Chief Secretary whether the Estates Commissioners are now in a position to divide up for the enlargement of uneconomic holdings the Carrowcullen lands which were owned by Thomas Kilgallen, Ardnaglass, and the representatives of James Hart, Donalthraul, Dromore West, county Sligo?

Mr. BIRRELL

The reply is in the negative. This estate is the subject of proceedings for sale by the owner direct to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903, and purchase agreements at prices agreed upon by the parties have been lodged with the Estates Commissioners. The lands referred to are tenanted lands in the occupation of judicial tenants and are the subject of a purchase agreement. The estate has recently been inspected, but it has not yet been reached in order of priority to be dealt with during the current financial year.
