Mr. TYSON WILSONasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that to copyright music in Canada the copies supplied to the authorities there must be printed in Canada, whilst in the United States copies printed outside that country are accepted; and 375W whether he will approach the Canadian Government with the object of inducing it to adopt the same system that prevails in the United States?
Mr. HARCOURTUnder the Imperial Copyright Act of 1842, which is still in force in Canada, it would appear that copyright in music may be enjoyed in that country without any necessity for printing there. The requirement to which my hon. Friend refers is contained in the Canadian local legislation, and relates only to works with regard to which it is desired to take advantage of that legislation.
