Mr. CATHCART WASONasked the President of the Board of Trade if his 517W attention has been directed to the scale of taxi-cab fares at Liverpool, Birmingham, London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh; and whether, in view of the price of petrol and the cost of equipping a first-class taxi-cab, he will endeavour to bring about a termination of the present strike on terms fair to both proprietors and men by suggesting the assimilation of London fares to those prevailing in other great cities?
Mr. ROBERTSONAs my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary pointed out in the House on Tuesday last, a Departmental Committee, appointed by his predecessor to inquire into the question of a revision of taxi-cab fares in London, reported in 1911 against any alteration in the tariff. I will send my hon. Friend a copy of the Committee's Report.
