asked the Chief Secretary the total local expenditure in Ireland for the years 1911–12 and 1912–13?

Mr. BIRRELL

The net expenditure from revenue during the year ended 31st March, 1912, amounted to £7,134,849; excluding electric lighting, gas, and tramway undertakings in the hands of municipal authorities, the amount was £6,346,161. Additional expenditure amounting to £1,383,615 was defrayed from loans and stock, of which sums amounting to £194,275 were expended in connection with the three undertakings mentioned above. The figures for the year ended 31st March, 1913, will not be available until about February of next year.
