HC Deb 01 April 1913 vol 51 cc223-4W
Mr. EDGAR JONES

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the estimated proportion expended on services in Wales and Monmouthshire of the total expenditure for the year ended 31st March, 1912, on factories and workshops, explosions, mines and quarries, Inebriates Acts, and medical referees, respectively?

Mr. McKENNA

The estimated proportion of the expenditure on medical referees was 5 per cent. In the case of factories and workshops, and mines and quarries, it is not practicable to apportion the cost of the headquarters and technical staff; but on the basis of the district staff the estimated proportion of the expenditure on factories and workshops was 4 per cent., and on mines and quarries, 24 per cent. There are only four inspectors of explosives for the United Kingdom, and one

inspector of inebriates for England and Wales, and the expenditure on those services cannot be apportioned.
