HC Deb 28 October 1912 vol 43 cc69-70W
Mr. KELLAWAY

asked the President of the Board of Trade if Mr. Tichbourne has resigned from the Traffic Department of the Board of Trade and has been appointed assistant general manager of the London General Omnibus Company; if there have been any other instances in recent years of Board of Trade officials joining the staff or accepting directorships of the same trust; and whether it is proposed in connection with any future appointments to the Board of Trade, to make it a condition that persons receiving such appointments shall undertake not to accept paid posts in connection with a commercial undertaking over which the Board of Trade has to exercise supervision in the public interest?

Mr. BUXTON

I presume my hon. Friend refers to Mr. Fishbourne, who was temporarily employed at the London Traffic Branch, but was not on the establishment of the Board of Trade. I understand that he accepted an appointment on the staff of the London General Omnibus Company, and that the gentleman who was formerly chief of the Traffic Branch and has now retired from the public service has become a director of that company. The Board of Trade have no powers of supervision over the London General Omnibus Company. I see no reason to make any condition such as that suggested in the last part of the question.
