HC Deb 28 October 1912 vol 43 c70W
Mr. CAWLEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade what has been the increase in the export of manufactured articles from Germany and from this country, respectively, since 1903; and what has been the increase in the import of manufactured articles into the same countries during the same period?

Mr. BUXTON

The classification of manufactured articles differs somewhat in the two countries and the German system of classification was altered in 1906. In the following statement, however, the German imports and exports in 1911 have been re-classified on the system in force prior to 1906 which more closely resembles that in force in this country:—

1903. Million 1911. Increase in 1911 over 1903
Million Million Million
£s. £s. £s.
Exports of Manufactured Articles from:
Germany 161.8 274.7 113.4
United Kingdom 234.1 362.2 128.1
Imports for home consumption of Manufactured Articles into:
Germany 59.3 92.7 33.4
United Kingdom* 116.3 137.2 20.9
*imports less re-exports.
