HC Deb 25 November 1912 vol 44 c833W
Mr. FELL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the reason for the increased stringency of the examination by the Custom House officers of the baggage of travellers landing in England from the Continent; if any instructions have been given by the Treasury in recent years on the subject; and if he is aware that it is more strict at the present time than the examination at the, frontiers of foreign countries?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

No instructions on the subject referred to have been given by the Treasury in recent years, nor have the Board of Customs and Excise issued any directions for increased stringency. I am afraid I cannot express any opinion on the point raised in the last paragraph of the question?
