§ Mr. C. BATHURSTasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the extra emoluments of the lower ranks of the administrative staff at Salisbury amount to 8s. 9d. weekly, made up by 9d. for lodgings and 6d. for rations daily, over and above what they would receive in barracks, and that these men are obliged to pay in Salisbury from 14s. to 15s. weekly for ordinary board and lodging, thus necessitating a payment of at least 4s. per week out of the men's own pockets; and whether, in view of these facts, he will reconsider his recent decision to reduce their ration allowance by 3s. 6d. per week?
§ Mr. HAROLD BAKERAll these matters, including the messing allowance, to which the hon. Member makes no reference, were fully considered by the War Office before the decision was given; and it is not proposed to make any alteration.
