HC Deb 04 March 1912 vol 35 cc168-9W

asked the Chief Secretary with reference to the extra police employed in Wexford during the recent strike, can he say how many of the extra police belonged to the depot and how many belonged to other counties; and if those sent down from the depot are a charge solely on Imperial funds?

The number of police drafted into the town of Wexford in connection with the recent strike was: From reserve at depot, 2 district inspectors, 2 head constables and 119 sergeants and constables; from other counties, 1 officer, 2 head constables and 80 sergeants and constables. As in the case of men drafted from the counties, portion of the cost of a reserve detachment calculated in accordance with the provisions of 37 and 38 Vic, cap. 80, Sec. 5, is recoverable from local rates.
