HC Deb 18 June 1912 vol 39 c1639W
Mr. BOWER MAN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has received a reply from the Treasury in reference to his further representations concerning the increase of wages for night male telephone operators, in accordance with the promise given to the Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Union Congress in the early part of this year?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I would refer the hon. Member to the letter on this subject which I caused to be sent to the Trades Union Congress Parliamentary Committee on the 21st ultimo, the receipt of which he acknowledged on the 22nd ultimo.

Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the people of Wexford have suffered inconvenience and annoyance owing to the trunk telephone between Wexford and Dublin being out of order almost every day for the past month; and whether he has taken any steps to see that the telephone is properly looked after, so that the public shall not be inconvenienced?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I regret that the trunk line between Wexford and Dublin has not been working satisfactorily of late, and that the efforts made to remove the cause of the trouble have not yet been wholly successful. I am now having the line specially overhauled.
