HC Deb 12 June 1912 vol 39 c1001W
Mr. SANDERS

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he will state by whom the cost of maintenance in sanatoria of persons who are not insured will be defrayed?

Mr. BURNS

It will rest with any local authority which provides a sanatorium to determine whether they will make a charge for the maintenance of patients or not. Almost all local authorities charge the rates with the cost of hospitals for infectious diseases, and it is undesirable that admission to such institutions should be subject to any charges or conditions which might tend to prevent their use by persons for whom they are most needed.
