HC Deb 04 May 1911 vol 25 c728W
Mr. SANDYS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether crime in Cavalry of the Line at Home amounts to over 3¾ per cent., whereas in cavalry of the line Abroad it amounts to under 2 per cent.; and, if so, whether he can give the reason for this difference?

Colonel SEELY

The correct percentages taken on the average strength throughout the year and after deducting acquittals, and convictions quashed or not confirmed, were for the year ending 30th September, 1910, 2.77 at home and 1.58 abroad. This difference is accounted for by desertions and absence without leave, details of which the hon. and gallant Member will find on page 68 of the General Annual Report (Cd. 5481).
