HC Deb 15 March 1911 vol 22 c2411W
Mr. ASHLEY

asked the Secretary of, State for War, what shortage at present exists in the establishment of the Army, including the British Army in India?

Mr. HALDANE

The shortage on establishments of all ranks in the British Army, inclusive of Colonial troops and Indian battalions serving in the Colonies, on the 1st March, amounted to 1991. It must be remembered that a pool of 1,850, over and above the ordinary regimental establishments, is included to cover variations in recruiting.
