§ Mr. ROBERT HARCOURTasked the Lord Advocate whether he is aware that numbers of Scottish fishermen would welcome facilities for borrowing money with adequate security for the purpose of fitting motor engines to herring boats; whether Government assistance of this kind is within the scope of the Development Act; and, in view of the commendation of this recent movement in the Fishery Board Report and in the Debates on Scottish Estimates, would he consent to receive a small deputation on the subject?
§ Mr. UREI must remind my hon. Friend that this cannot be regarded as a question for Scotland alone, and I understand that the Treasury has expressed the view that grants to individual fishermen for the purpose of introducing machinery into their boats are not within the scope of the Development and Road Improvement Funds Act, 1909. In these circumstances I regret that I do not see what useful purpose would be served by the suggested deputation.
