§ Lord CHARLES BERESFORDasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can inform the House if any officers of the Navy, Army, or Civil Service have, during the financial year ending 31st March, had 1s. 2d. Income Tax deducted from their salaries under Schedule E; has a similar deduction been collected from all civilians charged under the same schedule; under what authority have these deductions been made from such incomes; and will any deductions so made be repaid to those whose salaries have been thus diminished?
§ Mr. LLOYD-GEORGE:As regards the first and second parts of the question, I may refer the Noble Lord to my replies of the 10th and 21st instant, to the hon. Members for Worcester and East Marylebone respectively. The deductions have been made under the authority of His Majesty's Government. It is not proposed to repay those duties which have been deducted.
