§ Mr. ELLIS DAVIESasked the Prime Minister, in view of the fact that the Sovereign, by the Bill of Rights, is only required to declare that he will maintain the Protestant Reformed Church as by law established in England, he will explain for what reason it is now proposed that he should also avow himself a member of such Church.
§ The PRIME MINISTERBy Section 3 of the Act of Settlement (12 and 13, William III., c. 2) it is provided that "whosoever shall hereafter come to the possession of this Crown shall join in Communion with the Church of England as by law established." The proposed form of Declaration is in conformity with this provision.
