HC Deb 28 April 1910 vol 17 cc775-6W
Mr. WATT

asked the Lord Advocate whether Section 28 of the Regulations of the Scotch Education Department for the Training and Certification of Teachers (1907) prevents provincial committees from compelling students who are living at home to reside in hostels which are under their control but financed by the State; if so, is he aware that certain private denominational committees are compelling students living with their parents to reside in such hostels by refusing them admission as certificated teachers into the public State-aided schools of the particular denomination; and will he take steps to have the Regulation carried out?

Mr. URE

The effect of Article 28 of the Regulations is as stated. With reference to the latter part of the question, the Department are not aware of any case of the kind described, nor has any representation on the subject been made to the Department.
