HC Deb 20 April 1910 vol 16 c2269W
Mr. DUFFY

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware of the harm and injury that occurs yearly in several of low-lying districts of Craughwell, Clarshe, Cahill, and other places in the Parliamentary Division of South Galway, owing to the rivers overflowing and submerging the country; and will he see that under the Development Act power is taken to provide money so as to try and prevent a recurrence of these floods?

Mr. BIRRELL

I am informed by the Board of Works that there is an existing drainage district which covers part of the area, referred to, and that no recent complaints of damage by flooding in that district have reached the Board. I have no power to decide what works are to be carried out by means of advances under the Development Act. That will be a matter for the Development Commissioners.
